Shine Our Light

This week I was reminded that there are tragedies that happen in this world. Tragedies that occur because there is evil in this world. Satan desires for us to remain silent; he does not want us to share the good news and tell this lost and hurting world about Jesus and how He came to save us.

Satan wants us to wander in the dark, struggling to navigate life without the ability to see the truth. The truth is that Jesus defeated him on the cross, dying and then rising from the dead. He took back the keys from death, hell, and the grave, and He gave them to us so that we could subdue the earth, have dominion over the world, and multiply.

Yet, many of us, myself included, sit in darkness, hiding our light under a basket hoping no one will see. We go to a church building and we sing the songs, listen to the sermon and then we walk right back out and hide our light again. Jesus didn't say to hide our light, in fact in Matthew 5:15 he says, "Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house."

Jesus told to shine our light not hide it. We are called to shine our light outside the church building so that others may see and come to the light to be saved. We are called to tell others about the good news, that Jesus saves.
