Scars are not always seen; sometimes they are hidden deep
within us.
We put on a brave face, plaster on a smile, and pretend
we are okay. We go about our day in pain. We may go for days, months, or even
years, not wanting anyone to know about our scars.
Perhaps we are afraid of what others will think of us, or
maybe we keep them hidden for other reasons. Yet every time we feel the pain or
see the scars, we are reminded of the moments when those scars were created.
Exposing those scars to the light often reminds us of the
reasons we have them, rather than how we survived or overcame.
Jesus, the very one who spoke to doubting Thomas, showed
him His scars. The very ones that were caused by His crucifixion. His scars
reveal just how much He loves us.
When Jesus shines his light in us and on us, exposing our
scars, He doesn't want us to dwell on the pain; He wants us to see ourselves as
forgiven, loved, and victorious. The devil wants us to focus on the sources of
our scars – the ones who rejected us, abused us, or the ones we inflicted on
ourselves.
Jesus teaches us that even if our parents forsake us, or abandon
us, He never will. Our scares show us, we went through some things, but we
survived. We are victorious all thanks to God, who gives us the victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57)
So instead of viewing your scars as ugly, and trying to
hide them, allow Jesus to heal you. Don’t stop there share your story with
others, let them know of the victorious journey you went through. How Jesus
brought you through.
Please don’t let your scars define your brokenness;
instead, see them as a powerful story of everything you have overcome.
Jesus sees our scars differently than we do. He' bears
His own scars too. Scars that symbolize love for you and for me.
